User Guide

HorseAppeal.com is a marketplace for horses. Sellers interested in selling their horses may list them on the site along with 5 pictures of their horses. Buyers interested in acquiring these horses may browse through the listings and contact Sellers directly. HorseAppeal.com does not charge any commission from either the Seller or the Buyer. Neither does it acts as a Seller or a Buyer in a transaction but simply provides a forum or a marketplace to bring Buyers and Sellers together.

Registration

To make listings on the site you need to register. It only takes a minute or so to complete the registration. As soon as you fill-up the registration form and click Register, an e-mail is sent asking you to verify your e-mail address. The e-mail contains a link which you need to click or copy and paste in your browser address bar. Once done, you are verified and your registration is enabled.

Your e-mail address is your login ID which, along with your password you selected while registering, will enable you to get access to the Member's Area of the site. From here you can create a new listing, upload pictures to your listings and edit existing ones. You can also change your password if you so wish and update your preferences for newsletter and e-mail address.

Listing Submission

When you wish to create a new listing, login to the Member's Area via the User Login link at the top. Your first listing is made free of charge. Please check the payment page for Additonal Listings Cost. Inside, click on the link New Listing in the left side menu. This will bring you to the category selection page. Please select a category most appropriate to your listing. As soon as you do, you will be taken to the listing form. You can always go back and select another category if you made an incorrect choice. Suggest a new category if your listing so requires. Once you have submitted the form, you may also upload upto 5 pictures related to your listing, if you so wish -.gif or .jpg format. Now, in addition to .gif and .jpg images, you can upload video clips to your listings. The submitted listing remains hidden from the public until the Site Administrator approves it. Approvals take about 24 hours. DO NOT use all caps in the listing title.

Listing Searches

While one can browse through the listings by category, people often search with keywords. The keyword based searches are confined to words appearing in the Title and Description boxes. So keep in mind while creating your listing to include keywords for which you would like your listing to be found by others.

Listing Duration

Listings are made for 180 days at a time. One week before expiry, you will be sent an e-mail about this. You can re-list if necessary. You can edit and update your listing anytime and as many times as necessary. However, every time you update it, it will have to wait for the Site Administrator's approval before being visible again on the site. You can mark it as Sold if you have sold the horse. You can certainly delete it if the listing is no longer required.

Site Navigation

We have tried to keep the navigation of the site as simple and intuitive as possible. The links at the top and the bottom will appear on all pages enabling you to go to any of these pages from anywhere on the site. The detailed listing page has the links to contact the person making the listing, tell-a-friend about a listing, print it, and more. The name on the header is linked to the Home Page and clicking on it will bring you to the front page from anywhere on the site. Listing stats are shown on the detailed listing page. In addition, your Member Area will have information on the number of people who contacted you via the contact form, the total number of listings and views. Do give your suggestions on improvement - it will be appreciated.

Shopping for that perfect present for someone who just adores horses can be a challenge. Finding the right child's gift may include something as simple as the gift of riding lessons. Search your community tack store for local listings, call and ask for references. Meet the trainer at his or her training facility and watch a lesson. See how they respond to the horse and person they are giving the lesson to. You don't want someone who has no interest or patience with your child and horse. They must give their undivided attention to the student at all times! You may even go to a horse show and watch the trainers students perform, go behind the scene hang out at the stall where the horses are being kept and observe.

Many personality impressions can be an eye opener. A good trainer should start the beginner at ground level meaning safety first. Teaching a child how to safely groom, tack, and act around a standing horse is the best way to start. Another great gift to go along with this is a helmet. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of a proper fitting helmet, many serious head injuries can be avoided. Even when a child is just doing ground work with a horse like brushing, hoof picking, grooming etc. a helmet can be a good safety precaution. The horse tack also must be the correct type according to the kind of riding a person desires to do either English and or western. Some horse only can be ridden English and some do both ways.

Remember good riding skills don't happen overnight, be patient and you will grow to be a perfect rider. Be sure to purchase a horse according to which ever type of riding you plan to do. Don't buy any horse without a qualified veterinarian check, this can save you money in the long run. Horse insurance is always advised as well. Tack accessories, saddles, pads, horse blankets, bridles, bits, riding attire, boots, jewelry, collectibles, fine art, books, training videos, are all good gift ideas as well for both children and adults. Of course a horse would also make the ultimate perfect present for anyone!
